Dump coaches at own risk – Komphela

Komphela has warned club bosses against the chopping and changing of coaches.

‘Fire coaches at your own risk’ is the message from Golden Arrows Steve Komphela, who has warned club bosses against the chopping and changing of coaches, insisting that teams that will change coaches are running a huge risk.

Komphela has been at the helm of Arrows since mid-way of last season when his predecessor Clinton Larsen left the club to join Chippa United.

The likes of Dylan Kerr and Jozef Vukusic have already vacated their posts at Black Leopards Polokwane City respectively.

There has been a number of changes in the coaching front in various clubs last season as clubs like Kaizer Chiefs and, Chilli Boys and Maritzburg United employed at least two coaches – something Komphela is clearly not happy about.

“I must confess that for us coaches, it is not easy,” said the former Kaizer Chiefs and Bloemfontein Celtic mentor.

“Your planning as a coach, starting from the 17th of June when you prepare for your pre-season, you know that from day one, round one, you have no time.

“Whoever thinks they have the luxury to maybe change a coach during the season is running a risk. It is very competitive. Margins for error are getting lesser and lesser,” Komphela added.

“We have lots of top coaches and a lot of quality players in the Premier League. Our players need to come to the party and you need to get to the level where you are a top 24-hour professional from all sides, not only physically and tactically but the lifestyle is important as well.”
