Dominant Sundowns still keen to get better and better

'We want to have every pass perfect, every scheme and build-up should be perfect,' said Rulani Mokwena.

It may seem as though it would take a lot from any team in the DStv Premiership to stop Mamelodi Sundowns, given their performances so far this season, but the club’s co-head coach Rulani Mokwena insists that Sundowns are yet to hit top gear, and this is something he and Manqoba Mngqithi knew from pre-season.

Sundowns have started the season like a house on fire, going four games without defeat, nor conceding a goal and they find themselves in the semifinals of the MTN8 where they will face Swallows FC.

“From match day one we knew that as the season progressed we were not going to be at our best and that is still evident. We don’t want to have a team that competes but we want to have a team that dominates,” said Mokwena.

According to the outspoken mentor, Sundowns are chasing perfection and even though that might not be possible to attain, Mokwena says Downs will not stop until they play to the best of their ability and from all cylinders.

“We try to play a perfect game and we speak about it all the time, but of course, perfection doesn’t exist but the desire to want to be perfect is very important because when you chase perfection and you don’t attain it, you (still) reach a level of excellence and that is what we want. We want to have every pass perfect, every scheme and build-up should be perfect,” said Mokwena, ahead of their league clash with Orlando Pirates on Saturday at the Orlando Stadium.

Mokwena added: “This is the demand that we put on the team in training … we want to be a team that is very difficult to play against, we don’t want anyone who comes and plays Sundowns to think it is a walk in the park. It is very important for the personality of the team to reflect that.”
