Dingaan Thobela’s son signs for Highlands Park

Dingaan Thobela Junior, son of former WBC Super Middleweight world champion Dingaan “The Rose of Soweto” Thobela signed with PSL new boys, Highlands Park from Alexandra Black Aces.

But it was the three-time Premiership champions and current Nedbank Cup title holders, SuperSport United sprung the night’s biggest surprise when they announced the capture of former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Mandla Masango who joins on a six month loan deal from his Danish club, Randers FC.

The Bafana Bafana winger reunites with Stuart Baxter who coached him at Amakhosi and brought best out of him as he became a star in the Naturena based team’s succeses some three years ago.

Although Masango trained with Matsatsantsa a Pitori for a week early last month, the deal looked unlikely as Randers were unhappy with it, claiming he had not been given the permision for it.

Orlando Pirates also sprung a surprise of their own when they signed Matsatsantsa’s Dove Wome on loan until the end of the season. The Togolese attacker had struggled for game time under Baxter and could find a new lease on life under Augusto Palacios’ guidance at Bucs.

Kaizer Chiefs also finally confirmed what was the worst kept secret in local football, their signing of Venezuela born Italian striker, Gustavo Paez and the release of Jabulani Manqele and Siphelele Mthembu.

Manqele and Mthembu were initially put on transfer in June last year, but after a lack of suitors, were given a second chance by Amakhosi to try and win their places back.

“Manqele and Mthembu had ample time to exert themselves in the team but things didn’t go as anticipated and therefore we are negotiating an exit deal with the two players,” said the Glamour Boys’ manager, Bobby Motaung.

Amakhosi also confirmed that Erick Mathoho had extended his stay bringing to an end speculation that he was headed to Caf Champions League champions, Mamelodi Sundowns who sold their playmaker, Keagan Dolly to France Ligue 1 team, Montpellier
