De Sa was rumoured to have been among the favourites to land the Bafana job after Safa sacked Shakes Mashaba in December 2016.
Other reports suggested that De Sa could be appointed as the assistant to Carlos Queiroz, but De Sa succeeded Ernst Middendorp at Maritzburg. Middendorp quit in November last year.
Now rumour is that De Sa could be named either as the head coach or as an assistant to the new coach, believed to be either Queiroz or Ruud Krol.
Safa have announced that they will name the new Bafana coach after the friendlies against Guinea-Bissau and Angola.
Bafana are set to take on Guinea-Bissau in Durban on Saturday before playing Angola in East London three days later.
