De Sa explains Maritzburg United exit

United announced that De Sa had resigned on Thursday, citing “family commitments” in Cape Town.

“I was very well received,” said De Sa on Friday – he joined United in January, and lost five of his matches at the helm, winning one and drawing the other.

The former Bidvest Wits, Santos and Orlando Pirates coach confirmed that travelling between Maritzburg and Cape Town was the main problem – De Sa would go back to the Mother City about four times a month to be with his family.

“It was difficult for me to go up and down and after discussing it with the boss, I said it is not going to work, and he agreed and understood. We continue to be amicable and there are no hard feelings. The club will be fine … I think they are two wins away from a top eight spot.”
