Davids happy with Maritzburg strikers

Maritzburg United coach Fadlu Davids has applauded his striking pair of Andrea Fileccia and Mohau Mokate, saying they play differently and bring variety to his attacking options.

Despite not scoring, Fileccia proved to be a thorn on the AmaZulu side in the Team of Choice’s 2-0 win last weekend. Bandile Shandu and the PSL’s Player of the Month for January Siphesile Ndlovu scored.

“Fileccia is unbelievable in his movement up front, really good, he knows when to run and when to steal in behind the defence line. Mohau Mokate is a different type, he is a warrior. You can really count in him at any moment, so we have two really top quality strikers at our disposal,” said Davids.

The 36-year-old mentor played down his side’s chances of making a run for the Absa Premiership title, and said they are happy with just a top eight finish for now.

The Team of Choice are seven points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns with nine games to go.

“Yes, it’s nine games to go… hopefully 40 points is enough for a top eight finish this season, but perhaps with the teams so bunched you might need 43. I think we’re on track. We’re still a few points behind our target because of the eight game winless run but since we beat Cape Town City we have really clicked. We kept to our style and our structure,” he said.
