Davids explains why he and Ncikazi share responsibilities at Pirates

“Coach Mandla and I run all aspects of the football side," says Davids.

There has been a lot of confusion regarding the head coach role at Orlando Pirates, with many eager to know who is in charge of the decision making at the Soweto giants between co-caretaker coaches Fadlu Davids and Mandla Ncikazi.

Pirates management has not really explained who, between the two assistants to former coach Josef Zinnbauer, has the final say in terms of choosing the line-up and the training among other things since the departure of Zinnbauer.

Following the 2-0 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns in the DStv Premiership last weekend at the Orlando Stadium, Davids explained the roles he and Ncikazi share at the club.

“Coach Mandla and I run all aspects of the football side. That is making decisions together. Both of us are in charge of training, in charge of decision-making, in charge of the line-ups, in charge of substitutes and all football-related issues. That’s a clear understanding of how we are working and taking charge of all technicalities,” the former Maritzburg United coach explained.

The Buccaneers want to forget the defeat to the Brazilians as quickly as possible, with the Fifa break coming up. But before that, the Soweto-based outfit have an interesting meeting with Cape Town City away from home on Saturday and Davids says they will be looking to do better against Cape Town side.

“Orlando Pirates is a team that wants to win every game.  We want to be up there which is why this (loss to Downs) is really disappointing to go above Sundowns with a win today (Saturday). Unfortunately we could not get the win, but our objectives are clear. We will take it game-by-game at this moment in time,” he continued.

“We have one game now before the Fifa break against Cape Town City, although it’s away from home we want to collect maximum points in that game. Our objectives remain the same with our targets identified at the beginning of the season internally on what we want to achieve step-by-step in terms of the process we spoke about.”
