Danny Jordaan will be gone by May 31 – Ace Ncobo

“Phase two of our strategy was a deadline of May 31 to ensure Danny Jordaan exits Safa house, that phase is still ongoing, and by May 31 it will have been achieved,” said Ncobo on Wednesday.

The former Premier Soccer League general manager and referee laid out more of his plans to save South African football from what he called “the ICU”, including convening a national football conference in South Africa on May 12 under the theme of “Reshaping the Future of South African Football”.

Before that, Safa have called an emergency congress on April 28, where according to Ncobo they hope to ratify changes to the electoral code that enable an elective congress to take place on May 19.

Ncobo already managed to get the Safa elective congress postponed last month (phase one of his strategy), arguing that the association were violating their own electoral code in several ways.

He believes the changes Safa are now trying to make to their code go against Fifa statutes, and could get South Africa banned from international football.

“On April 28, there is an extraordinary Safa congress, I have seen the agenda, and part of the agenda is to ratify the electoral code amendments,” said Ncobo.

“As a member of Safa in good standing, I will be there and arguing against the adoption of those amendments. I can’t agree to any decision that places Safa at risk of suspension from international football.”

Ncobo also wants there to be a secret ballot in the vote as to whether to ratify the amendments to the electoral code.

“We will be tabling a motion to have all the decisions at the congress taken by a secret ballot, in terms of the Safa statutes,” added Ncobo.

“The level of intimidation is so high, if voting by a show of hands, many regions are forced to tow the line of individuals continuing to mess up the FA. If there is a secret ballot the correct decisions can be taken. It shows you the level of fear that pervades the leadership of the entire association. It is a very sad state of affairs.”

Ncobo has already written to Fifa over his concerns about Safa, and says that they have agreed to convene an emergency meeting on the matter.

“Fifa will sit as and when it wants to sit and make a determination,” added Ncobo.

“Right now South African football is in the ICU, very close to the mortuary, and we want to take it out of the ICU, into the general ward, and later into hospital,” he added.
