Da Gama explains why Masango’s trial was cut short

Highlands Park coach Owen Da Gama says they have to be strategic when it comes to signing players because of their budget.

This was part of the explanation Da Gama gave when asked why former Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United midfielder Mandla Masango has stopped training with the Tembisa based club.

The former Bafana Bafana coach says they didn’t want to waste the speedy attacker’s time and he felt he had enough players in Masango’s position in the team.

“Mandla is a quality player and I believe we have players that are equal in quality with Mandla,” Da Gama told SABC Sport.

“We are strategic on the players we want to sign, we won’t sign because a player is available. It had nothing to do with Mandla, as time went on we realised it was not a crucial position for us to sign, even if he was better than the players we have got, we have to sign for the future.”
