Court dismisses Ajax’s application to stop playoffs

Ajax Cape Town's urgent application to interdict the promotion/relegation playoffs was dismissed at the South Gauteng High Court.

Ajax were looking to halt the playoffs following arbitrator William Mokhari’s ruling over the eligibility of Tendai Ndoro, which saw the club relegated to the National First Division.

Dismissing the application today, Judge Raylene Keightley said the application lacked urgency.

“To proceed to consider their [Ajax] application in these circumstances would not be in the general interest of all parties represented by the NSL [National Soccer League],” said Judge Keightley.

Judge Keightley gave Ajax until Tuesday to submit further papers to the court in order to proceed with their second appeal, to set aside Mokhari’s ruling.
