Count me out of Bafana job – Pitso

Pitso Mosimane has candidly said he was not interested in returning to South African football’s biggest and hottest coaching job at Bafana Bafana.

The Mamelodi Sundowns coach poured his heart out to reporters on Thursday about how “sad” he was when he was sacked by the South African Football Association some seven years ago. Mosimane said he was not willing to put his career and his fate in the hands of the Safa top brass.

“I had my share at Bafana, I was there for five years and I have benefitted a lot from Safa, they really helped me a lot. As assistant coach, I have been on the bench against Germany, Spain… I have seen all these players. From Cristiano Ronaldo to Andres Iniesta to Luka Modric, you can just mention them. What an experience I’ve had

“What was not nice is the way it happened. I don’t believe that a coach who loses two games in two years should be fired. It was sad to be fired by a taxi owner. It was sad to be fired by a priest, it was sad to be fired by a traditional chief. I was sad I even begged them not to fire me. I said don’t fire me, I know what I am doing, it will come out right.”

Mosimane continued: “Do I want to face that again? My career is in those hands? I work hard and I put a lot of energy I football and I have my faith in the hands of those people. Those people are the ones responsible to hire and fire, they don’t understand football. What do they do from Monday to Friday [so they can decide on] football matters? It is unbelievable.

“I defeated the mighty Egypt with Mohammed Aboutrika, coach Hassan Shehata, they don’t know those names, they don’t know what I am talking about. Do I want to be in that situation again because that situation is still the same? I don’t want to be there, I am happy at Sundowns, I am loved at Sundowns, the board. At Sundowns my fate is on the pitch, the results keep me at Sundowns.”
