City put Khuzwayo pursuit on hold

The 27-year-old goal-minder has been an understudy to Bafana Bafana keeper Itumeleng Khune since his promotion to the senior team back in 2012. Khuzwayo has seen very little action this season as Khune continued to star in between the sticks, winning numerous Man-of-the-Match accolades in the first half of the season.

“I haven’t spoken to his agent (personally). My recruitment head spoke to him a couple of days ago, but it appears to be that their [Chiefs] expectations are beyond our reach,” City chairman John Comitis told Phakaaathi on Thursday.

“I think we are so far apart that in everything that we would be putting out the value, it would end up being a disappointment to the player, and I think we don’t want players to be in a negative mindset frame,” he added.

“So at this stage we are doing nothing,” Comitis concluded.

The Mother City-based side have parted ways with attackers Aubrey Ngoma and Lehohonolo Majoro, who joined Mamelodi Sundowns and struggling defending champions Bidvest Wits respectively.

They have brought in former Downs defender Kwanda Mngonyama in anticipation of Robyn Johannes’ departure to Wits at the end of the season, as he has signed a pre-contract with The Students. City also signed Surprise Ralani from Swedish side Helsingborg IF.
