City clarify Brilliant Khuzwayo interest

Cape Town City chairman John Comitis has cleared the air on his club’s reported interest in Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo.

Earlier on, Phakaaathi sources tipped the website that the Mother City-based side are lining up an offer for the shot-stopper in light of his contract ending in June.

The 27-year-old has been an understudy to Bafana Bafana ‘keeper Itumeleng Khune since joining Amakhosi 2012, having since managed about 33 games in the gold and black.

Khuzwayo has seen little action this season, and to perhaps vent out his frustrations, he went as far as tweeting what could be decrypted as hint on a move away from Naturena.

The Tweet dated October 30, read: “Sometimes hard work isn’t enough when you don’t fit in the picture frame”.

However, Comitis has not at all denied interest in the former national Under-23 goal-minder, but insists the right channels will be followed.

“We can’t even talk about the player because he is contracted,” Comitis told Phakaaathi.

“I am going to have to wait until January. I believe January is just around the corner, but I think Chiefs will extend his contract.

“I’ve got three goalkeepers, Shu-Aib Walters (number one choice) is slightly injured at the moment, so we are going to revise our goalkeeping situation in the new calendar year but at this stage I have made no decision,” Comitis added.

He continued: “I need to respect other clubs because I can’t really talk about players who are contracted to them. But if he (Khuzwayo) is a free agent at the end of the season then he will be considered.”
