Chippa accused of ‘stealing’ a player

Chippa published a list of their latest signings on Monday, and Mlungisi Mbunjana was among the new arrivals at the team. All Stars insist the player has a contract with them.

Igugu Lekapa confirmed in a statement that the player had missed preseason training, claiming the Chilli Boys might have endorsed that move by the 26-year-old midfielder. All Stars believe the player is training with the Port Elizabeth side.

“We are flabbergasted and highly disappointed with the conduct of Chippa United. They went publicly to announce their signing of our player, Mlungisi Mbunjana, while he is still under a contract with our club,” he said.

“They have not only done that, but they have enticed the player to join them for preseason training. We notified the player ahead of our preseason training, which started three weeks ago, but he never arrived.

“Chippa United’s conduct has not only undermined our club but the league as well. We could not imagine a NSL club undermining the NSL together with its rules and regulations in the manner that Chippa United has done.

“It is very sad that in our league there are still clubs behaving in the manner in which Chippa United has done. We will report the matter to the NSL’s Dispute Resolution Chamber, and we believe that strong action will be taken by the league against both Chippa United and the player.”
