Chiefs youngster admits he was nervous on debut

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Khotso Malope has admitted he was anxious when coach Steve Komphela told him to be ready for the game against Maritzburg United last Wednesday.

Malope, who recently returned to Amakhosi following a loan spell with Thanda Royal Zulu, had a perfect debut for the club, starting in place of the injured George Maluleka.

The Glamour Boys went on to win the tie 2-0 at Harry Gwala Stadium.

“I was nervous when I heard that,” speaking to the club’s website, Malope recalled the time when Komphela told him he would be in the starting XI.

The 22-year-old midfielder said he was happy they won the match, and thanked everyone who had been supporting him.

“For the moment, I am happy that we beat Maritzburg. Thanks and glory to God. Thank you also to the Amakhosi Family for their support. This is a dream come true!”

Chiefs’ next game is against Golden Arrows at the FNB Stadium on Saturday, and with Maluleka still out, Malope will be hoping to get another run in this game.
