Chiefs, Pirates target signs new Maritzburg contract

Maritzburg United have exercised the two-year option on Evans Rusike contract.

The Zimbabwean striker has been linked with Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, with the latest news being that he had agreed to join the Buccaneers in June after the expiry of his contract.

The Team of Choice, however, has moved quickly to tie down the 26-year-old striker as they look to fend off interest from the Soweto giants.

“I was happy to join the club last season and help to survive relegation. Now that the club has exercised the option, I have to stay focused,” Rusike told the club’s website.

“I have a job here. It’s an opportunity for me to keep improving on my game.”

Maritzburg marketing and communications manager Brian Zuma says any team that is interested in Rusike will have to follow the proper channels.

“Evans is our property and we’re still expecting a lot from him.

“He is not for sale until the time is right, and if and when that happens, proper channels will have to be followed.”
