Chiefs need a striker, but aren’t looking for one, reveals Zwane

With the transfer window coming up, Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Arthur Zwane believes if there is one department the team would have to add depth into would be a striker.

The Chiefs assistant has been in charge of the club in their last three games in head coach Stuart Baxter’s absence. Amakhosi have registered two wins [against Sekhukhune United and Maritzburg United] and a loss [against Royal AM] during that period.

Amakhosi’s striking department currently has Leonardo Castro, Lazarous Kambole, while Samir Nurkovic has been out due to injury, whereas Dumisani Zuma has been suspended since last month.

However, despite stating the striking position is what is probably the department that needs to be beefed up, Zwane says they are not looking.

“If we were to beef up as a club, I think we would maybe look for a striker, but at the moment I don’t think we are looking. We have a lot of players and we can maybe even go to the development team because we have boys who are promising,” said the Chiefs assistant.

Zwane added that the club is strong in defence despite looking to be struggling with defending set-pieces in their game against the Team of Choice, Zwane was content with the display from Njabulo Ngcobo, who has been out for some time.

“Going forward, as a team I don’t think we will need defenders. We are covered. Njabulo Ngcobo did quite well too. He was not bad considering he was out for some time. It was key for us to give him a run and he did well, but he started cramping and we had to substitute him. But I am not worried about the dead-ball situations. It is actually one of the strong points and that’s where we also have good players who can defend and attack in set plays.”
