Mabedi signed a two-year deal with Amakhosi to replace John Paintsil after the Ghanaian was sacked by Chiefs last week.
The Malawian-born former player was coaching National First Division side Cape Town All Stars before returning ‘home’ to Naturena.
Mabedi captained Chiefs from 2003-2006 before signing with Moroka Swallows.
“I am happy to be back home,” said Mabedi. “I look forward to making a contribution to the success of this great institution. This is a privilege. I wish to thank the club management for this opportunity.”
