‘Chiefs have lost confidence,’ says former captain Mashamaite
"If you lose constantly, confidence is lost, but if they win consecutive games, they can gain confidence again," says Mashamaite.

Tefo Mashamaite, the former captain of Kaizer Chiefs, has a straightforward message about the current state of the team – they’re lacking self-confidence.

According to him, it’s been a bit of a rollercoaster ride for Chiefs lately. Their coach, Molefi Ntseki, has faced some serious heat from the fans, getting tossed out of the hot seat twice with calls for him to step aside.
Mashamaite, who was one of the MTN8 ambassadors, believes the path to redemption for Chiefs involves some serious sweat and hard work.
“They will have to work hard to get results that will give them back their confidence,” Mashamaite told the media in Durban.
“They must start now and focus their minds on working for a good result.
“If you lose constantly, confidence is lost, but if they win consecutive games, they can gain confidence again,” he adds.
Mashamaite emphasises that Chiefs need to grab one of the remaining cups after their MTN8 miss. Chiefs were knocked out in the semi finals by Mamelodi Sundowns.
Next up is the Carling Black Label Knockout which will be launched this afternoon. It will be followed by the Nedbank Cup towards the end of the season.
‘It’s embarrassing’
Mashamaite also spoke of Chiefs players not being picked for the national team, Bafana Bafana, saying it is embarrassing for the club.
There is only one Chiefs player in the current Bafana squad who are in camp for two friendly matches against eSwatini and Ivory Coast.
“They must understand that not being called up to the national team is not good at all.
“It means that they are not ready to play for Bafana and they will have to pull up their socks because it is a big shame that Kaizer Chiefs players are left out of Bafana.
“This means that they have to have a look at themselves and find out what they are not doing right,” said Mashamaite.
Chiefs, under Molefe Ntseki’s guidance, have been on and off, giving promising performances in one game, then losing the next horrendously.
They currently sit in eighth place with 11 points, while Sundowns, leading the pack, boast 24 points.

Ntseki will however have some time to work things out as Chiefs return to the field on October 29 to face Golden Arrows away.
