Chiefs assistant coach hails ‘thinker’ Ngcobo

Ngcobo helped the Glamour Boys seal a 2-0 victory over Maritzburg.

Nkosingiphile Ngcobo’s influence in Kaizer Chiefs game against Maritzburg United has left Amakhosi assistant coach Arthur Zwane lauding the midfielder and says he did the job for the club when they needed him to.

The 22-years old midfielder former junior national team player helped the Glamour Boys seal a 2-0 victory over the Team of Choice, scoring the second goal for Chiefs through a beautiful curler after coming on as a second half substitute in a very closely contested affair.

Ngcobo’s goal against Maritzburg was his second goal for the club in three games, following his stunning long range strike against Sekhukhune United, which also secured Chiefs maximum points after winning the tie 2-0 and taking the team’s point tally to 28 after 16 games.

“A player of Nkosingiphile Ngcobo’s caliber depends on when you use him and on the approach of the opposition as to when you need him in the game. He is not a player that can fight for the ball or has that energy to fight for the ball. But he is more of a thinker, more of a playmaker. As you could see, when we needed him today (Wednesday), he came to the party. He is the one who gave us that security goal. He is a player who can swing the game in your favour because he has game intelligence, he is a smart player,” said the Amakhosi assistant coach.

“So, knowing that we used him in the past two games and we substituted him against Royal AM, after about 70 minutes, we knew for this game we knew if he started he wasn’t going to be that much effective. We left him on the bench knowing that he can be one of our impact players.”

Zwane, who has coached Ngcobo at youth level for many years, certainly knows the kind of contribution the midfielder can bring in the team, even though he has only managed to get a limited game time this season under head coach Stuart Baxter.  But, following his positive impact into the team, the midfielder might feature more Amakhosi in the following year.
