Chiefs are out of league title race – Mphahlele

The defender says Amakhosi will do better to fight for a respectable finish on the standings.

“We speak one language as a team and obviously we will try and win the games that are remaining and see where we end up. I don’t think we still have a chance to win or compete for the league (title) but we still want to finish on a good note and see where we can end up. Maybe we can get a confederations Cup spot… that is still possible,” he said on Thursday.

While Mphahlele may have been playing mind games by downplaying his own team’s chances, he did however reveal that the race is still wide open and he could not predict who would be the eventual winners.

“It is very tight at the top,” he said. There is a lot of stress and pressure (for those at the top). All the teams are feeling the pressure. You can see with (Mamelodi) Sundowns dropping points and (Orlando) Pirates against Celtic where they almost lost the three points. Cape Town City are creeping in and there is still Wits who you can’t write off. It’s too early to say (who will win it) because the way the log is at the top… It can still go to Cape Town, it can go to Pretoria or it can come to Joburg,” said the 29-year-old.
