Celtic supporters club chairman comments on pitch invasion

Bloemfontein Celtic supporters club chairman Mabena Pule says Sunday’s pitch invasion was not part of the planned protest by the Siwelele supporters.

The match between Celtic and Cape Town City was called off after some Celtic supporters invaded the pitch and threw objects on the field.

Speaking to the Daily Sun, Pule says the supporters had to protest outside the stadium, but things changed when the Celtic management decided to give fans free tickets to enter the stadium.

“We had staged our boycott outside the stadium. But club management have been giving free tickets to other supporters and they might have had enough of the problems going on at the club,” said Mabena.

The Premier Soccer League has since charged Celtic for Sunday’s pitch invasion.

Siwelele are expected to appear before the PSL DC on Thursday, April 25.
