It took Bloemfontein Celtic reserve side the last game of the season to be crowned the new MultiChoice Diski Challenge champions after beating Kaizer Chiefs 3-1 at the Makhulong Stadium on Saturday.
Going into this game, the young Phunya Sele-Sele only needed a win or draw against Amakhosi to clinch the tittle, leaving Polokwane City and SuperSport United level on 29 points, Cape City on 27, while Celtic finished the season on 32 points after 15 games.
It was a closely contested race for the championship ahead of the last games of the league, with top four sides Celtic, SuperSport United, Cape City and Polokwane City all with a chance to be crowned champions on the day.
But Cape City’s 2-2 draw with Polokwane City and SuperSport’s 2-1 victory over Free State stars weren’t enough to stop Celtic from lifting the title.
