Carling Knockout to pump R20.2 million into DStv Premiership clubs

The winner will get a whopping R6.6 million.

The Premier Soccer League announced on Friday that the Carling Black Label Knockout, the league’s new competition, would be giving our R20.2 million in prize money and participation fees.

The PSL also confirmed the dates, venues and times for the last 16 of the tournament, which kicks off on October 18 as TS Galaxy host Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Carling Knockout is basically a revamp of the PSL’s ‘League Cup’ which was previously called the Telkom Knockout. It involves only the 16 teams in the DStv Premiership.

Each team is guaranteed a R250 000 participation fee, while the winners of the Carling Knockout will get a whopping R6.6 million. This is slightly less than the R8 million Orlando Pirates got for winning the MTN8 but the overall prize pot is higher.

The losing finalist will pick up R 2.6 million and the losing semifinalists R1.1 million each. Those knocked out in the quarterfinals will get R600 0000 and those that exit in the last 16 will pick up R300 000.
