According to SowetanLive coach Benni McCarthy’s side have shown interest in the midfielder who is currently a free agent.
Mayambela announced his departure from Chippa United at the end of the 2018/2019 season.
The former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns star trained with the Mother City club for a week during the international break.
Mayambela is said to have impressed McCarthy while training with the Citizens. McCarthy is set to meet club chairman John Comitis to discuss signing the 32-year-old playmaker.
McCarthy previously expressed his desire to sign more players this season for his side to compete for silverware after the arrival of Mpho Makola.
