Caf confirm date for Caf group stages draw

Mamelodi Sundowns will have to wait until the last week of April to find out who will be their opponents in the Caf Champions League group stages.


This comes after Caf on Thursday announced that the draw for the group stages of the Caf Champions League and Caf Confederation Cup to take place in Cairo on April 26.

Sundowns will reportedly avoid African giants Al Ahly, Zamalek and Etoile Du Sahel in the group stages of this year’s competition.

According to the reports Sundowns, the two Egyptian clubs (Al Ahly and Zamalek) and the Tunisian side (Etoile) are all seeded based according to Caf’s five year club ranking system.

The four teams are said to be in Pot 1.

Pot 2 consists of Al Hilal (Sudan), Esperance (Tunisia), Wydad Casablanca (Morocco) and USM Alger (Algeria)

Pot 3 has Al Merriekh (Sudan), Coton Sport (Cameroon), AS Vita (DR Congo) and Al Ahli Tripoli (Libya)

Pot 4 contains St. George (Ethiopia), Ferroviaro Bera (Mozambique), Zanaco (Zambia) and CAPS United (Zimbabwe)
