“The club was put on the market before the season started but there were no takers. Running the club has proved quite costly and the owners are no longer sure if it is worth their while to keep going,” said a source.
Amabhubesi chairman Pierre Delvaux has admitted in a television interview that the costs of running the team were becoming rather unbearable, but he went on to reveal he was in talks with various stakeholders to keep the club going.
A source said the club were hoping to finalise a financial deal with Umhlathuze District Municipality to keep the team in Richards Bay.
“They are looking at a deal similar to that which Maritzburg United have with Umgungundlovu District,” said a source. Maritzburg reportedly receive an annual allowance of R3 million from their local council.
