Burkina Faso set to appeal Fifa’s replay decision

Fifa ordered that the match that was played in November last year be replayed due to “match manipulation” by referee Joseph Lamptey.

The world football governing body made the decision after the CAS upheld a life ban on the Ghanaian referee, who was found guilty of match manipulation in Bafana’s 2-1 victory over Senegal on November 12 in Polokwane.

In a statement, FBF said it “continues to oppose a decision that is tainted by abuse of power and irrelevant to the texts of the international football authority”.

“The federation, which relies on its declaration to appeal to the respect of the virtues of football, invites the Burkinabe sports public to the serenity and the mobilisation around the Stallions,” the statement continued.

Burkina Faso are currently top of Group D ahead of Cape Verde on goal difference after four qualifiers.
