Brighton didn’t give Tau the respect he deserves – Mosimane

“By the way, is Brighton bigger than Al Ahly? Al Ahly is a bigger team,” said Mosimane.

Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane has dismissed views that Percy Tau’s move to the Egyptian giants is a step back in his career.

Tau completed his move to Al Ahly from English Premiership side Brighton and Hove Albion, but his move was met with a lot of criticism from people who called the move ‘a step back’ in his career.

Mosimane, however, does not believe that is the case. but Mosimane believes otherwise.

“It’s been four years since he [Tau] left South Africa and he hasn’t played the same way he used to play here, and I don’t think Brighton gave him the respect he deserves,” said Mosimane during an interview with Radio 2000.

“Percy Tau was not in Brighton’s plans at all, they didn’t even use him during the pre-season.

“By the way, is Brighton bigger than Al Ahly? Al Ahly is a bigger team. Sorry but we just came back from the Club World Cup,” commented Mosimane.

Meanwhile, Tau has explained his decision to move from English Premier League side Brighton to Egyptian giants Al Ahly.

The 27 year-old has been criticised by some, including former Bafana Bafana and Blackburn Rovers striker Benni McCarthy for giving up the Premier League to go and play for Pitso Mosimane’s Ahly.

“With most of these decisions I consider myself and how I feel. I know I always have the support of South Africa, and South Africa is a footballing nation,” said Tau.

“What is the point of me sitting on the bench when I am not playing? I want to see myself playing and my family wants to play. People will always have opinions, this is a big country.”

Tau was recalled from a loan spell by Brighton in January but despite performing well on his EPL debut against Manchester City, was not really given much of a chance after that by Brighton head coach Graham Potter to show what he can do.
