Boy suspected of ‘bewitching’ stadium assaulted by residents

The stadium is used by Maritzburg United as their home ground.

According to Isolezwe, the boy was caught burying R2 coins on the field over the Easter weekend. It is not clear why the boy in question buried the coins, but it is suspected that is was connected to a black magic ritual.

“The boy dug holes close to both goal posts and buried R2 coins in each of the holes,” an eyewitness told Isolezwe. “The team was training there and left one of the gates opened and that’s how he gained entry.

“Community members who saw what was happening decided to sjambok (whip) him to get answers but he got away and no one knows his name,” added the source.

The Team of Choice’s chairman Farook Kadodia confirmed that a man was apprehended at Harry Gwala Stadium.

Maritzburg are set to host Orlando Pirates at the self-same Harry Gwala Stadium tonight in a league match that could decide the coastal club’s top flight status.
