Benni targets top three finish

Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy has described the 2-2 draw against Orlando Pirates as a missed opportunity for his side to move up the league table.

The former Bafana Bafana striker says he would like City to finish higher on the log table than he did in his first season in charge of City.

“I am not too happy‚ because it was a missed opportunity‚” McCarthy said. “For me it is all about building. My first season as a coach I finished fifth‚ so for my second season I am aiming much higher. Now third if we are lucky. Anything is possible in football.”

Meanwhile, as reported earlier, McCarthy has apologised to Orlando Pirates for denting their title hopes on Saturday.

“I have to sincerely apologise to Orlando Pirates that this was not going to be the day they become champions on my watch.

“Maybe one day the Pirates faithful can forgive me. But I am just doing my job‚” commented McCarthy.
