“I have got a bazooka, with no bullets. It seems to be the case every single game. Either all my strikers, every single one of them is injured so you have to go with what you have,” McCarthy told the SABC.
“Unfortunately at this crucial stage it’s not good enough. You know, I think there are certain players that are not pulling their weight.
“It’s ninety minutes again and the opposition is not going to give you the game. I think some of our guys thought that by playing good football that’s enough. We have to do more than just playing good football.
“I think SuperSport had more desire than us and I commend them for a team that travelled, came back, played Orlando Pirates on Wednesday and had to fly to Cape Town to play us.
“They looked the team that was fresher. We were just slower at the blocks. Honestly, I do not know what it was, but we were not at the races today [Saturday]. When you get away with a point you cannot really complain,” McCarthy continued
“We had the better chances of the two teams, but still, when you do not put the ball in the back of the net, you do not win games. Simple as that, I think players do not understand that.
“I think players must forget about thinking that the break is there and its holiday time.
“There is still three more games to go and I think anything can still happen. We have to rediscover ourselves. Too many players do want opportunities when they are given it and how tough it is getting into the starting eleven.
“Then when you are given the opportunity you don’t take it. It’s a bit disappointing for me, but three games to go. So, we have to work on what we have and just keep pushing and fighting with a hope that we will get it right.”
