Benni dreams of Bafana coaching job

McCarthy believes he can help the South African national team on qualify for the World Cup.

The former Bafana Bafana striker was appointed as the head coach of Cape Town City in 2017 and has since won the MTN 8 trophy with the Mother City club.

McCarthy is disappointed with Bafana Bafana failing to qualify for the last four world cup tournaments.

“It’s a dream, of course I want to be a world cup coach, I want to take Bafana into a world cup,” said McCarthy in an interview with Enca. “First to qualify, because we can’t seem to qualify since 2002 that was the last time Bafana Bafana qualify for a major world cup, and that is a crime, with the crop of players we have, the infrastructure we have. We missed out on the world cup in 2006, we didn’t need to qualify for the world cup in 2010 because we were hosting, then 2014 we missed out in Brazil, in 2018 we missed out in Russia so we had to be spectators again, it is painful.”
