Benni blasts Bafana coach over Erasmus snub

Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy has criticised Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter for not including in-form striker Kermit Erasmus in his squad.

Baxter left out Erasmus in his Bafana squad to face Libya in Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier later this month.

The English mentor claimed that Erasmus wants to feel like the main man in a team for him to perform at his best and he couldn’t give the City striker that platform in his Bafana Bafana squad.

“Baxter goes and says that Kermit is not a team player, I completely disagree with him. It’s a bit frustrating when you see these things happening. Baxter has another thing coming. I had a conversation with him and told him that Kermit is 95% ready,” said McCarthy.

“When he don’t qualify then we know why. It is because we don’t select players based on merit here. Kermit deserves to be in the Bafana squad, but for some reason he is not,” concluded the former Bafana striker.
