Baxter names provisional Bafana squad for 2019 Afcon

Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter has announced his provisional 30-man squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Egypt next month.


The squad will be trimmed to 23 players before the tournament starts on June 21.

Bafana are in Group D in the Afcon alongside Ivory Coast, Morocco and Namibia.

South Africa get their tournament underway against the Ivory Coast on June 24 in Cairo before playing at the same venue on June 28 against Namibia.

They then round off the group stage with a match against Morocco on July 1.

The 30-man provisional Bafana squad:

Defenders: Daniel Cardoso (Chiefs), Rivaldo Coetzee (Sundowns), Ramahlwe Mphahlele (Chiefs), Thulani Hlatshwayo (Wits), Innocent Maela (Pirates), S’Fiso Hlanti (Wits ), Buhle Mkhwanazi (Wits), Thamsanqa Mkhize (Cape Town City)

Midfielders: Bongani Zungu (Amiens), Hlompho Kekana (Downs), Dean Furman (SS), Kamohelo Mokotjo (Brentford), Tiyani Mabunda (Downs), Thulani Serero (Vitesse), Thembinkosi Lorch (Pirates), Themba Zwane (Downs), Fortune Makaringe (Maritzburg), Ben Motshwari (Pirates), Keagan Dolly
