Baxter lashes at his players for poor showing

SuperSport United coach Stuart Baxter was left fuming and called his team inept after a goalless draw against Free State Stars on Wednesday night. Baxter laid it to his players saying they didn’t do their jobs on the night.

“I didn’t expect the poor quality we dished out tonight,” said Baxter to SuperSport TV after the match. He added: “Sometimes we do these interviews as coaches and we spin things, because we fear for our jobs and we want to be kind to the players but sometimes we have to say. In the first half we were totally inept tactically, in the second we were totally inept technically. It was a very poor game from our side.”

Baxter admitted that he had given his players a tongue lashing at half time, but it didn’t seem to work.

“I think the half time team talk was not a polite one…. Tactically we got the game back by changing the shape but technically we were poor,” he said.

The draw denied Matsatsantsa a Pitori a chance to jump to the top of the Absa Premiership standings.
