Baxter laments SuperSport after Downs annihilation

SuperSport United coach Stuart Baxter has admitted that his side was outclassed by Mamelodi Sundowns during the 5-0 loss to the defending league champions in the Tshwane derby on Thursday.

Following this heavy loss to their Tshwane neighbours, Baxter was at loss for words to explain what went wrong with his side on the day.

“I wish I could I mean what happened in the beginning of the game. We started quite nice there on the ball then gave two big transitions which they came one-on-one with our goalkeeper.

“But then after that they got a rather scrappy first goal and then we played kamikaze (suicide attack) for about 15 to 20 minutes. We couldn’t defend properly, we allowed them to play through our lines, we then defended badly when the ball was through our lines and they ran in behind us time after time.

“Once you’re 3-0 down and 4-0 down at half time then you’re lucky. You try and stop the bleeding and you are lucky to try and scrape yourself back into the game. If you look at the whole game I mean we were just outclassed, it is as simple as that.

“It just looked like we were watching Sundowns, admiring them rather than being in the game so when you do that we you know how you win games and you know if we turn the ball over as often as we did against a good team, they are going to punish you. I have lost five nil twice in my career, once to Barcelona and once tonight. So I just think it’s easy to say move on, but you can’t just move on because that will hurt and it should hurt. To finish I just want to say to Pitso, well done Pitso, it was a different class.”
