Baxter explains ex-Bafana stars’ role in national team

Baxter roped in former Kaizer Chiefs striker Shaun Bartlett to join his technical team for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nation qualifying matches against Seychelles.

Bartlett, is one of three former Bafana Bafana players who are in the English mentor’s technical team, with Andre Arendse as the goalkeeper coach and  Aaron Mokoena as the team manager.

“I want the best for South Africa, we need to benefit from the knowledge of people that are qualified,” said Baxter.

“People like Shaun, like Andre, have the experience and we want them to match their experience with knowledge and coach education.

“So we want to move down that road as much as we can, and it would delight me if some of this players from the past invested in their future and it would delight me to draft even more because we have such an untapped reservoir of experience and once it is turned into the ability to communicate we have a lot we can benefit from.

“Once Kamo [Kamohelo Mokotjo] is done with his active careers we want to have all that knowledge and all that experience back into the system.”
