Basetsana coach searching for new talent

Basetsana coach Maud Khumalo will be using this year’s Safa Under-19 Women’s Regional League Championship as a platform to identify new talent for the national Under-20 women’s team.

The annual women’s national tournament will run from October 2 to October 6, at the Nike Football Training Centre in Pimville Soweto, where nine provinces will battle it out for the crown.

“We will use this tournament as a platform to identify talent for our national women’s Under-20 squad. We are currently on a rebuilding phase and so we are looking forward to the type of talent this tournament is going to offer us,” Khumalo told the Safa website.

“This is a very important tournament because a whole lot of (retired) players such as myself, Jabulile Baloyi and Cosafa Women’s Championship back-to-back winner Desiree Ellis, were discovered at inter-provincial tournaments such as this one. You get to see the best of the best of what our country has to offer, talent wise.”
