Baroka boss reveals players’ salaries

Baroka FC Chairman Khurishi Mphahlele says the Limpopo club spends R5 million a month on travelling around the country and wages.

Mphahlele adds that the players’ salaries are the club’s highest expense.

“You need at least R5 million a month to run a Premiership team without a stress, but that is for Baroka. I cannot speak for other teams because we do not have the same [number of] staff,” Mphahlele told The Sowetan.

“What I can tell you is that the amount is enough for Baroka to keep going.”

“The salaries of players is the most expensive feature in this R5-million. The highest earner here is getting R200000 and the lowest is pocketing R50000 every month,” continued Mphahlele.

Mphahlele says it is important to keep the players happy and that they club could rope in another sponsor soon.

“Our sponsors are giving us a lot of money on monthly basis, but I cannot divulge what we are getting from them because it is confidential.

“We are busy with some car company which might also be our partners. With all these, I can safely say that my team is not necessarily struggling.”

Baroka have funeral service provider Two Mountains and Clover as sponsors.
