Banyana Banyana will conclude their 2019 Fifa Women’s World Cup preparations with a clash against former World Champions Norway, the South African Football Association (Safa) confirmed on Friday.
Banyana, who are currently camping in Johannesburg, will be heading to the US on Monday where they will take on the US senior national women’s team on May 12 at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
Coach Desiree Ellis believes the Norway clash will be beneficial for the team and it will help them get ready for the global tournament.
“We could not have asked for better preparations looking at our programme – and now to add Norway to the mix is just great. They are a great team, and their record speak volumes – world champs in 1995, UEFA winners in 1987 and 1983 as well as Olympic gold in 2000 – shows they are no pushovers and will give us the final test before we enter the biggest stage of our careers, so this has really come at a very good time,” said Ellis.
The Banyana and Norway clash will take place at Stade Moulonguet in Amiens, France, on June 2.
The 2019 Fifa Women’s World Cup is set to take place in France from June 7 to July 7.
