Tau spent last season on loan at Belgian second tier side Royale Union Saint-Gilloise where he scored 13 goals and provided 13 assists in 35 games.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns star was linked with several club, but Brighton have since confirmed that he will be playing for Brugge this coming season.
“This is a great move for Percy. It’s a step up to the next level in Belgium, and he also has the prospect of Champions League football,” said Brighton technical director Dan Ashworth.
“It comes off the back of an impressive African Cup of Nations campaign with South Africa, and will give Percy the opportunity to further develop his undoubted talent.”
Tau will be looking to impress Brighton while on loan in order to convince them to give them to bring him back to the English Premiership.
