Bafana job for Roger?

Queiroz is rumoured to be on his way back to South Africa as Bafana Bafana coach, with current national coach, Gordon Igesund, set to face the chop.

And sources close to Safa said the Danny Jordaan-led organisation are going to recall Quieroz, who is in charge of the Iranian national side and will be leaving them after the World Cup in Brazil in six months time.

De Sa, who has just quit his post as Orlando Pirates coach, is one of Queiroz’s friends in this country.

“He was here for the African Nations Championship to watch Nigeria,” De Sa said. “I think he would have told me if he was returning to the country or if he will need me.”

Queiroz left the national side in 2002 after qualifying for that World Cup in Korea and Japan after a fallout with Safa.

And since then the national side has been chopping and changing coaches.

Queiroz, who has worked extensively in Europe, including stints with Real Madrid, Manchester United and the Portuguese national team, and the 60-year-old were seen in Cape Town chatting to Safa president Jordaan.

“They did have a chat about the possibility of his return,” a source said. “It is now up to Queiroz I think.”

De Sa said Queiroz will not leave Iran lightly. “He has a good relationship with the FA there and I do not think it will be easy for him to leave,” De Sa said.

“But in football anything is possible. You can be here today and nowhere tomorrow.”

Asked if he would consider joining Ajax Cape Town who are keen on bringing him on board, De Sa said he is still enjoying his holiday and will look into work after it: “We will see how things turn out after my holiday,” he said. “For now I am just finishing my break.”
