Bad Refereeing killing our beautiful game – Benni
Cape Town City coach Benni McCarthy has questioned referee Victor Gomes’ officiating during Friday’s night clash against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Gomes stole the spotlight with some of the calls made during the game, sending off Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane and City captain Robyn Johannes.

“Congratulations to Sundowns on their win tonight. Unlucky to my boys, brilliant performance and didn’t deserve to lose but football is about scoring to win which we didn’t do. Yet again bad refereeing killing our beautiful game,” read a tweet from McCarthy.

“These days when you are expressing yourself or have your own opinion on match officials, it’s punishable and very costly so I’m trying to keep my expressions and opinions to myself.”

The Bafana Bafana’s all-time top goal scorer was not sitting on the bench on Friday as he was serving a two-game suspension after being sent off during the Ikapa derby against Ajax Cape Town on January 20.
