Ambitious Micho knows it is in Pirates hands

After a disappointing goalless draw away from home against Zimbabwe’s FC Platinum in their opening group stage game in the Caf Champions League in Bulawayo last week, Orlando Pirates are desperate for a win when they host Guinea’s Horoya FC at the Orlando Stadium this evening.

The Buccaneers have a chance to top Group B if they beat Horoya, who drew 1-1 with Tunisia’s Esperance in their first match, leaving all the sides on one point in the group.

Pirates coach Micho Sredojevic accepted the team’s draw against FC Platinum.

“We are back in the group stages after six years and, with that in mind, not many – three or four – players in our squad have felt what this is like,” Sredojevic was quoted as saying by the Vodacom Soccer website.

“So, we cannot be excuse-makers, blame-shifters or fault-finders and looking right and left, but we shall accept whatever comes our way.”

“We really have the highest possible ambition in every competition, with respect to this badge and shirt. And we are also believing in the work we are doing, the players we have and the support we are getting from you (the media), our supporters and management. We can really stretch ourselves past our limits and look forward to getting the best out of ourselves.”

Meanwhile, Horoya midfielder Naby Soumah is adamant they will get a good result against the Buccaneers.

“We know what’s at stake in this trip. Our next opponents also drew, so it’s up to us to travel well to bring home a good result. We can because we started well,” Soumah was quoted on Horoya’s official website.

Horoya FC lead the standings after four games having won all their matches.
