AmaZulu redeploy Folz amid poor run of results

'He will be expected not to interfere with the day to day running of the team. We thank him for his contribution to the team,' says Zungu

The loss to Swallows FC at the weekend has become the straw that broke the camel’s back for AmaZulu FC management who have redeployed the coach.

Folz faced the wrath of the supporters on Saturday evening after his team were beaten 1-0 by fellow strugglers Swallows.

On Sunday, club president Sandile Zungu apologised to the supporters and said he knows they deserve better.

And on Tuesday afternoon, the club confirmed that Folz had been moved from his position.

His assistant Ayanda Dlamini will guide the team in the interim. Dlamini was reportedly already in charge of the team on Tuesday morning.

“The game is results driven. And with six matches to go occupying 12th position, it is clear the performance is not fitting for a club like AmaZulu FC,” said Zungu in a statement.

“The decision is taken to appoint Ayanda Dlamini as caretaker coach until the end of the season.”

Zungu added that Dlamini’s mandate is to try and get as many points for the club as he can in the remaining six games.

AmaZulu are currently 12th with 28 points. They are a mere four points behind relegation places.

“(His (Dlamini) immediate mandate is to fight for the 18 points that are still on offer.

“Dlamini has the huge task of preparing the team for the upcoming match against Cate Town City this weekend.”

Folz remains as advisor to AmaZulu boss

The AmaZulu boss said Folz will not be lost to the team and will remain his trusted right hand man.

“With Folz, there are many aspects that we want to continue with from him,” said Zungu.

“I have retained him as a technical director, primarily to advise the president (Zungu) on the technical aspects of Vision 2032 until the end of the season.

“He will be expected not to interfere with the day to day running of the team. We thank him for his contribution to the team,” added Zungu.

AmaZulu extended Folz’s contract for a further three years in January when he was in the last six months of his short-term deal.

He had been fired at Marumo Gallants for poor results. Zungu has in an interview claimed that Folz was the best coach Usuthu have had since he took over ownership.

This meant he rated him higher than both Benni McCarthy and Brandon Truter who came before him.
