All shades of green as AmaZulu and Gallants clash is called-off

AmaZulu FC and Marumo Gallants DStv Premiership tie was called-off due to a clash of jersey colours at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

The match was abandoned with the officials stating the two colours of Usuthu and Gallants were very close to each other and one team had to change the jersey.

But, AmaZulu, who were the home side in this clash had the right to play with their home kit and that meant Gallants had to play with an away jersey and it seemed like they didn’t have the extra one since they couldn’t change.

According to the NSL handbook article 17.1 to 17.4, during match days, teams are bound to travel with alternative jersey’s at every match.

“17.1. Each member club team will declare on its initial or annual membership renewal form, the colours of its official team and the colours of its alternative team outfit.

17.2. Both member clubs must take their official team outfit as well as their alternative team outfit to all matches.

17.3. The onus is on the visiting team to ascertain the colours of the home team for a particular match.

17.4. If in the opinion of the referee the colours of the two (2) opposing teams may lead to confusion, the visiting team change into the alternative outfit or a combination of the two (2) outfits save that in exceptional circumstances the referee may order the home team to change all or part of its outfit.

17.5. The outfits of the two (2) goalkeepers will be clearly distinguishable from those worn by the two (2) sets of its outfield players.”

AmaZulu came into this game looking to make things right following their 2-0 loss to Sekhukhune United in their previous league match, while Gallants also lost 1-0 to Stellenbosch, which added to their woes this season following a very poor start.

Gallants are at the bottom of the log with four points after eight games, while Usuthu are in eighth place with 11 points.
