The Red Devils edged the Students 1-0 in Cairo on Saturday.
A second-half header from centre back Ahmed Hegazy in the 56th minute secured the win for the eight-time African champions.
“Ahly played a good team full of [good] qualities, but we could have scored more if we’d had more luck,” El-Badry told his club’s website.
“Ahly have a good chance to make it into the group stage because the opponents will attack and allow us to take advantage of their spaces using our qualities and experience. But nothing is guaranteed in football.”
Wits will host the Cairo giants in the second leg on Friday.
