Akpeyi, who has been the preferred goalkeeper for German coach Ernst Middendorp with Khune being the second choice, won Nigerian Goalkeeper of the Year award.
“Congratulations on your Ballers Nigerian Goalkeeper of the Year award Bro Daniel Akpeyi, well deserved and keep up the great work. Healthy Competition,” read a tweet from Khune.
Khune has lost his number one jersey to Akpeyi at Chiefs, but the Bafana Bafana goalkeeper has been supportive of the former Chippa United shotstopper during games, with the pair sharing conversations during the game.
