Jele aims to end trophy drought with Nedbank Cup

The Buccaneers are in their fifth season without silverware and it will take a gallant effort for them to win something this term with the Nedbank Cup draw serving them a difficult start against Bidvest Wits.

And although Pirates still have a chance in the league title race, they are an unlikely candidate for it and the Ke Yona serves as the last chance at salvaging their campaign.

“It’s been a while not winning any silverware, so I think this one is going to be very important for the team,” Jele told Pirates TV in a video posted on Twitter after the draw on Thursday night.

He said they want to win the trophy for club chairman Irvin Khoza who has been supportive of them during the trying times.

“We will be playing for the fans and playing for the chairman, because he’s been supporting us all these years. So, obviously it would be nice to win the trophy for him. We want to go out and play our normal football and do well for the team.”

Jele knows all too well that facing Wits will be no easy task but he believes they will be well prepared for Gavin Hunt’s unforgiving side.

“It’s a big game and it’s a very exciting challenge for us to play against Wits. But I’m hoping we’ll be prepared very well because the first game we played them in the league we lost the game. But coming to this one, we’re looking forward to it and we’re going to do well as a team.”
